As we come up on Easter, students around Western New York are looking forward to a nice little break from school. The weather in Buffalo is getting a little clearer, but maybe the family is heading somewhere warmer for spring recess. If so, there are a few things we would like to remind you to keep in mind if you have braces. Putting together a little travel “braces” kit won’t take long, but it might make a huge difference in your treatment time & vacation.
Packing for a vacation can seem daunting, but it’s really not that hard. Ensuring you have all of your essential items to be able to have the best time as possible is what’s most important. Bringing a little braces/oral hygiene kit is definitely essential for anyone who has braces. Here are a few items you should remember to bring on your trip.
- Toothpicks or flosspicks
- A travel water bottle or mini bottle of mouthwash
- Orthodontic wax for any discomfort or protruding wires
- A small mirror for examining any possible issues
Getting these things together is just as important as making sure you bring enough outfits! Some pharmacies do sell similar kits that might put everything together for you. In the event that you run into any issues with your braces on your trip, please don’t hesitate to give our office a call. We can talk you through it and let you know what your next best action should be. There are also a few foods you’ll want to avoid while on vacation to avoid causing any problems.
- Chewy, Sticky, Gummy Foods
- Apples, Pears, Other Whole Foods (Always cut into wedges)
- Bagels or Hard Rolls
- Corn on the Cob
- Hard Candy
- Hard Cookies or Pretzels
- Any variety of nuts, peanuts, almonds, cashews etc
If you keep up with these few tips and reminders you should have no problem with your braces while on vacation. Once again, if anything does happen, please don’t hesitate to give our office a call! West Seneca Orthodontist wishes everyone a wonderful Spring Recess!
