Why Buffalo Families Choose Manzella Orthodontics

Choosing an orthodontist is a long-term decision. Treatment can span 12 to 24 months, sometimes longer, and the right practice should feel like a partner in your care from the consultation through the day your braces come off. Our team is committed to high service with low stress, which has earned us a loyal patient base across Western New York.

Dr. Manzella completed his Doctor of Dental Surgery at the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine, graduating Summa Cum Laude, and continued at UB for three additional years of specialty training in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics. Only six percent of dentists are actual orthodontists, and that distinction matters when you are trusting someone with the alignment of your teeth and jaw. His training, ongoing education, and roots in Western New York mean Buffalo families are getting specialist-level care without driving far from home.

Orthodontic Treatment Options for Buffalo Patients

Every smile is different, and Manzella Orthodontics offers a range of treatment options designed to match the goals, lifestyle, and clinical needs of each Buffalo patient. During your consultation, we walk through the options that fit your case and explain what to expect at each stage.

Metal Braces

Modern metal braces remain one of the most effective options for comprehensive orthodontic correction. Today's brackets are smaller, smoother, and more comfortable than the braces many parents remember, while still delivering the precise tooth movement needed for complex cases including significant crowding, bite issues, and full-arch correction. Colored bands give younger patients a chance to personalize their treatment.

Clear Braces

Clear braces use tooth-colored ceramic brackets that blend with the natural shade of your teeth, making them a popular choice for teens and adults who want the proven effectiveness of fixed braces without the visibility of traditional metal. Clear braces function the same way metal braces do, with the same range of treatable cases, just with a more subtle appearance.

Clear Aligners

Clear aligners are removable, nearly invisible trays that gradually shift teeth into alignment. They are well suited for mild to moderate cases and for patients who want a discreet treatment that fits around work, school, and social commitments. Aligners are removed for eating and brushing, which means no dietary restrictions and easier oral hygiene throughout treatment. Adults and older teens are the most common candidates.

Serving Patients Across Buffalo Neighborhoods

Buffalo is more than a single zip code, and our patient base reflects that. Manzella Orthodontics treats families from neighborhoods all across the city, including:

Allentown and Downtown Buffalo

Allentown patients are about a 15-minute drive from our West Seneca office via I-190 South. We see working professionals from downtown and the medical campus who appreciate appointment times that fit around their schedules, including our extended Thursday evening hours.

Elmwood Village

Families in the Elmwood Village area regularly choose Manzella Orthodontics for their kids' early orthodontic evaluations and full treatment. The drive down Route 5 puts you at our office in roughly 20 minutes.

North Buffalo, Parkside, and University Heights

Patients from North Buffalo, Parkside, and the University Heights area near UB's South Campus travel to us for both phase-one interceptive treatment for kids and full braces or aligner treatment for teens and adults. The Kensington Expressway and I-190 connect this part of the city directly to West Seneca.

South Buffalo and Riverside

South Buffalo and Riverside families have the shortest drive of any Buffalo neighborhood, with most patients reaching our office in under 15 minutes. We see multi-generational families from these communities who have referred siblings, cousins, and friends over the years.

Kenmore, Tonawanda, and the Northtowns

Patients from Kenmore, Tonawanda, and other Northtowns communities also choose Manzella Orthodontics for specialty orthodontic care. While the drive is longer, families consistently tell us the personalized care and treatment results are worth it.

Orthodontic Care for Every Age

Manzella Orthodontics provides orthodontic care for all ages, from children's early evaluations through adult treatment. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first orthodontic evaluation by age seven, and we work closely with Buffalo families to determine the right time to begin treatment for each child. Teens and adults make up a significant share of our practice as well, with clear braces and clear aligners particularly popular among older patients who want a more discreet treatment experience.

What to Expect at Your First Visit

Your first visit at Manzella Orthodontics is a complimentary consultation. We start with a thorough exam, take digital imaging, and review your bite, tooth positioning, and overall oral health. From there, Dr. Manzella explains what he sees, walks through the recommended treatment options, and answers every question on your list. There is no pressure to commit on the spot.

If you decide to move forward, our team reviews timeline, payment options, and insurance coverage. We work with most major insurance plans and offer flexible in-house financing to make orthodontic care accessible for Buffalo families.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Manzella Orthodontics located in Buffalo?

Our office is located in West Seneca, NY, just minutes from downtown Buffalo via I-90 and I-190. We serve patients from every Buffalo neighborhood and the surrounding suburbs, and our location is convenient for both city residents and families in the surrounding communities.

What is the difference between an orthodontist and a dentist?

An orthodontist is a dental specialist who has completed an additional two to three years of training beyond dental school, specifically focused on tooth movement, jaw alignment, and bite correction. Only about six percent of dentists are actual orthodontists. Dr. Manzella completed his orthodontic specialty residency at the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine.

At what age should my child see an orthodontist?

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first orthodontic evaluation by age seven. This does not mean treatment will start at age seven, but an early evaluation allows the orthodontist to identify developing issues and recommend the right time to begin treatment if needed. Learn more about Phase 1 orthodontic treatment.

Do you accept dental insurance?

Yes, we accept most major dental insurance plans that include orthodontic benefits. Our team will verify your coverage before treatment begins and walk you through any out-of-pocket costs. We also offer flexible in-house financing for patients without insurance coverage.

How long does orthodontic treatment take?

Most patients complete treatment in 12 to 24 months, though timelines vary based on the complexity of the case and the treatment option selected. Clear aligners and limited treatment cases may take less time, while comprehensive cases with significant bite correction can run longer. Dr. Manzella will give you a personalized estimate at your consultation.

Do you treat adult patients?

Absolutely. A meaningful share of our patient base is adults. Many adults pursue orthodontic treatment to correct shifting teeth, address relapse from previous treatment, or finally fix something that has bothered them for years. It's never too late for braces, and clear aligners and clear braces are particularly popular among adult patients.

Meet Your Buffalo Orthodontist

orchard park braces

Dr. Kevin Manzella was born in Fredonia, NY. He graduated with a degree in Biology from SUNY Geneseo. He then spent four years at the SUNY at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with his DDS. Dr. M. stayed at UB to complete his specialty training in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics and was awarded the William W. Feagans Clinical Postgraduate Scholarship. The extra three years of specialty training allow Dr. Manzella to call himself an orthodontist (Fun Fact: only 6% of dentists are orthodontists).

First of all, Dr. Manzella is a family man. He has an amazing wife, Noelle, two beautiful daughters, Penelope and Lucy, and two bossy rescue dogs, Zelda and Leif Erikson. He’s not your typical doctor. It wouldn’t be unusual for Dr. M. to show up to the office with a tear in his dress shirt because he was doing some electric work or demo-ing his kitchen. He runs marathons, makes wine, volunteers for the Paws for Love therapy dog program, plays tennis, and loves the Buffalo Bills!

Types of treatment

Metal Braces

Traditional Strength and Precision

Metal braces at Manzella Orthodontics in Buffalo are a testament to traditional orthodontic excellence. Known for their durability and effectiveness, metal braces are ideal for tackling a wide range of orthodontic issues, from simple misalignments to more complex dental challenges.

Robust and Reliable Treatment

These braces consist of high-quality metal brackets attached to each tooth, linked by a thin archwire. They work by applying consistent pressure to the teeth, gradually shifting them into the correct position. The strength of metal braces makes them particularly effective for significant dental corrections, including severe misalignments, overcrowding, and bite issues.

Customizable and Efficient

One of the unique aspects of metal braces is their ability to be customized with colored bands, making them a fun option, especially for younger patients. Despite their traditional nature, metal braces have evolved to be more comfortable and less obtrusive, offering an efficient path to a straighter smile.

Clear Braces

Aesthetic and Effective

Clear braces at our Buffalo clinic offer a more aesthetic alternative to traditional metal braces. They function similarly to metal braces but with the added benefit of discretion, thanks to their clear or tooth-colored brackets.

Subtle Yet Powerful

These braces are perfect for patients who are conscious of the visibility of orthodontic treatment but require the strength of traditional braces. Clear braces blend in with the natural color of your teeth, making them less noticeable while providing the same level of effectiveness in treating various orthodontic issues.

Ideal for Teens and Adults

Clear braces are particularly popular among teenagers and adults who seek a less conspicuous orthodontic solution. They offer the reliability of traditional braces while maintaining a more natural appearance throughout the treatment.

Clear Aligners

Modern and Convenient Orthodontics

For those seeking a modern, nearly invisible orthodontic solution, Manzella Orthodontics in Buffalo provides clear aligners. These aligners are custom-made, removable trays that gently shift your teeth into place.

Invisible and Comfortable

Made from a clear, flexible plastic, clear aligners are virtually invisible when worn. They are custom-fitted to your teeth, ensuring maximum comfort and minimal impact on speech. The removability of these aligners offers unparalleled convenience, allowing patients to eat, brush, and floss without any restrictions.

Tailored for Your Lifestyle

Clear aligners are ideal for patients with mild to moderate orthodontic issues who prefer a more discreet treatment. They require commitment to wearing the aligners for the recommended 20-22 hours per day, with a change to a new set every 1-2 weeks. This innovative treatment is particularly appealing to adults and teens looking for a less noticeable, flexible orthodontic solution.
